Published internationally, she is a past judge of the ARA Historical Novel Prize Australasia and the Historical Novel Society Colleen McCullough Writer’s Residency. Her debut novel The Bark Cutters was shortlisted for an Australian Book Industry Award and she has a Master of Letters in Creative Writing. Nicole resides in northwest NSW Australia.
Nicole Alexander was raised on her family’s agricultural holding north-west of Moree in northern NSW. During her career she has worked in Australia and Singapore in financial services, fashion, corporate publishing and agriculture. A fourth-generation grazier, Nicole was the business manager of her family’s mixed agricultural property until its sale in 2020. Her family’s long tenure on the land (1893-2020) and their (hoarding) of archives instilled in her a deep love for Australian history and a desire to write about it was born.
Her novels delve into pivotal events in Australian history and frequently grace the Australian Fiction bestseller list. She has been published in territory’s as diverse as Germany and Ukraine and praised for her gritty portrayals of Australian life. Extensive research underpins Nicole’s works. She has walked parts of the Strzelecki Desert, roamed Kakadu National Park tracing the steps of the famous frontiersman and buffalo hunter Carl Warburton, trekked through Gundabooka National Park in western NSW in the footsteps of the original landowners and travelled through the Great Plains of America.
