A Changing Land

- A must read.

The Outback Magazine

- Outback sagas, otherwise known as farm lit, are huge right now and fourth generation grazier Alexander is the heir apparent. In this sequel to the best selling The Bark Cutters, past and present interweave as the tension from the last Gordon family land grab of the 1890s echoes down through the generations to Sarah Gordon, battling her half-brother, her beloved Anthony, and the law in a rural family drama with all the right elements.

  – Alexander is a fourth-generation Australian grazier, so she really does know what she is writing about. Business manager of the family property five hours out from Brisbane, she could empathise with heroine Sarah. Sarah was the star of The Bark Cutters and in this sequel more family secrets are revealed, with many a twist in the tail of the tale.

- I was so impressed with Nicole Alexander’s previous book ‘The bark cutters’ that I couldn’t wait to start turning the pages of her latest work.  And sure enough I wasn’t disappointed.  The story line was so gripping I couldn’t put it down until I had finished the entire book.  Alexander built a strong story line in ‘The bark cutters’ and describes an attachment to the land normally associated with indigenous people, this attachment is carried through to the next generation of the Gordon family the sequel ‘A changing land’.  There is a certain strength in the characters that any Australian with appreciate.  Nicole Alexander has become one of Australia’s top female authors and I am sure many will love this truly great piece of Australian fiction

The Bark Cutters

Devastating fires and floods bring home to urban dwellers the strength & loyalty that country folk have for their land. The author knows all about this and it is reflected in her tale of Sarah, whose inheritance of Wangallon is overlooked when her brother dies. She leads a new life in the city after the handing over of what she believes is rightfully hers to a man she loves. Returning home what is it that holds her love most strongly? Her family homestead-or the man who now manages it? A great saga that traces family history with a wealth of romance.

 Womans Day

Past and present are woven through this engrossing Australian saga from new outback author Nicole Alexander.
In the mid-19th century, Hamish Gordon leaves Scotland for Australia, first in the goldfields and then as owner of a magnificent property, Wangallon. More than a century later, his descendant Sarah Gordon longs to claim the land as her own, but when her brother, the heir to Wangallon, dies tragically, jackaroo Anthony, whom Sarah loves, is installed as manager.
Devastated, Sarah escapes to Sydney, throwing herself into a blossoming photography career and a new romance. Ultimately, though, she will have to choose: the bright lights of the city or the land and man who owns her heart.

Doubleday Books

A Life on the land in outback NSW has inspired first time author Nicole Alexander to write about the bush in The Bark Cutters, which captures the lives of four generations of one family. Sarah Gordon loves the family property but her older brother is set to inherit. When he dies in a tragic accident Sarah flees to the city to build a life and career. The pull of the land is too strong and Sarah is torn between love and the bush. Alexander splits her story into two time zones tracing the family back to the 1850′s.

The Bark Cutters is an engaging saga of pioneers in a new land. It’s a romantic story about the choices we make and those made by our hearts. Both a historical account and modern love story, it’s the kind of book you can curl up with on a cosy Saturday.

Can’t wait for “The Farmer Wants A Wife”?  Get stuck into this Aussie saga spanning four generations.  Sarah wants to inherit her family’s homestead, Wangallon, but that will never happen, not even when her beloved elder brother is accidentally killed.  She tried to leave but Wangallon’s in her blood and the swarthy station manager’s captured her heart in this escapist outback fiction.  Four stars.

NW Magazine

With flasbacks to the 1850′s. The Bark Cutters explores the highs and lows of living on a generational family farm.

I was lucky enough to see this debut fiction novel before it was published. An engrossing multi-generational saga set around Wangallon, the Gordon family homestead, this multi-layered story of romance, risk and family secrets by Nicole Alexander, ‘Australia’s Newest Bush Storyteller’, is highly recommended.

‘Nicole’s work is both pure and compelling…at times provoking, at others startlingly simplistic. A subtle beauty pervades even the most harrowing image and a freshness of style lifts a sometimes sardonic, wistful voice into a powerful reminder that in everything we endure and aspire too, there is always hope… ’
